New York Daily News' Best of New York
Honorable Mention: Wigs and Plus

Daily News: Sunday, August 11th, 2002

If you're on a tight budget but still want a new look, head to 14th St., where Wigs and Plus [123Wigs.com's physical store] offers the best of both worlds - quality hairpieces at affordable prices.

"The majority of our clientele are people who don't like to spend a lot of money," says Korean-born, Queens-reared Rosa Oh, 24, who manages the family business and runs its Web site.

"We get cancer patients. We get a lot of actresses and a lot of drag performers. A lot of hairstylists come in, too - and they get a 10% discount if they're licensed."

Customers find more than 100 different styles - synthetic wigs ranging from $20 to $90, and human-hair wigs priced from just $30 up to $300. The shop carries extensions, ponytails, falls, even rainbow-colored wigs and bushy Afros. There's also a complete line of hair dyes and beauty supplies.

"Word got around that we have very affordable hairpieces and wigs," says Oh. "We also have good quality and a wide variety."

Millie Rosero, 36, has worked at the shop for three years, helping with fitting and styling. She knows how to help people find what they want.

"The difference with human hair,", Rosero says, "is that you can color it and use heat on it — hot curling irons, flat irons. With synthetic hair; you can just wash it and the style will bounce right back. It all depends on what the customer wants."

Regardless of what they want — and regardless what they're willing to spend - it's a safe bet that they'll find what they're looking for at Wigs and Plus.
