Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Below is a list of the most common questions our clients ask about wigs and wig care. To get the answer, just click on the question or simply scroll down to see all the questions and their answers.

Can I use normal styling products on my wig (extension)?

In most cases, yes. To style wigs; hair sprays, gels, mousse etc. can be used since wigs are washable. Hair dyes and bleaches may also be used, but only on human hair wigs and extensions. Dyes and bleaches will not work on synthetic hair products and may damage the hair strands.

How often should I wash my wig?

We recommend washing a wig every fourth day it is worn. So, if you wear your wig every day, you should wash it about twice a week.

How should I wash my wig?

We recommend washing your wig by hand with a mild shampoo and conditioner. Some of our clients have also used Woolite® and dishwashing liquid to wash their wigs.

Can I style my wig (or extension) using a curling iron, hair drier or other hot tools?

That depends on what type of hair your wig or extension is made from. Human hair products may be styled just as you would style your normal hair. The wig caps are also designed to withstand styling by hot tools (with the exception of skin-like caps, which may melt under excess heat). Synthetic hair products should not be exposed to any heat or hot tools as these will melt or damage the synthetic hair strands.

How should I store my wig when I am not wearing it?

The best way to store wigs is to place the wig on a styrofoam head with a hair net over it so that the style of the wig can be preserved. Wigs can also be kept in a hair net and in a plastic bag (which usually comes with the wig) when it isn’t being worn.

What should I use to comb or brush my wig?

This depends on the length and style of the wig you have. It also depends on whether your wig is made from human hair or synthetic hair. We have several articles on wig care in our infocenter.

How can I detangle my wig? How can I give my wig some extra shine?

Any sheen sprays or wig sprays can be used to detangle and give shine to wigs. This is especially good for long haired and tight curled wigs.

Do wigs come in different sizes?

The full line of wigs we carry come with adjustable straps. These straps allow the cap of the wig to adjust to the size of your head for a great fit.

What else can I do to ensure the secure fit of my wig?

The adjustable straps can be used to make a wig quite tight on your head so that, in most cases, it would be hard for it to fall off. If you want extra security, wigs can be further secured by using bobby pins through the wig or at the edges of the wig. If you have no hair, double-sided tape can also be used for extra security, but may not be used if there is any hair at all on the scalp.

What is the best way for me to wear a wig if I have long hair?

There are two options that work quite well for our clients with longer hair. Some of our clients wrap their hair around their head and pin it in place underneath their wigs. You can also wear a wig cap (a head cap that may be worn underneath wigs). The wig cap fits tightly (but comfortably) over your hair and keeps your hair in place.

Do I have to wear a wig cap?

Using a wig cap is mainly a matter of personal preference. Most of our clients, whether they have long or short hair, prefer to use wig caps because it holds the hair in place better and helps to keep the wig cleaner. In some instances, it may also prevent hair breakage due to the wig cap rubbing against the scalp. Wig caps are also quite useful if you have longer hair.

Can I cut my wig?

Yes. Both our synthetic and human hair wigs may be cut just like normal hair. This can be helpful if you purchase a longer wig and later decide to go with a shorter style, or if you would like a custom look with bangs or layers.

What is the best thing to do for the hairline when wearing a wig without bangs?

The best thing is to leave front of your hair out partially in the front then blend it into the wig so that your own hair line is shown. This can be done when your own hair and the wig hair color are blendable. Usually, wigs without bangs have little baby hairs in the front or have a skin-like cap so that the wig will look as real as possible.

How can I remove the shine from my wig?

If you find your wig is too shiny for your tastes, lightly apply baby powder to the wig with a powder puff. Then, shake any excess powder from the wig.

What type of wig cap looks the most realistic?

In general, most people find that the skin-like cap looks most like a natural scalp. In cases where a client has no hair, we recommend a monofilament cap, as this allows the client’s real scalp to show thru the wig. In most cases, though, it is really a matter of personal preference.

How do I know what style and length of wig is best for me?

We’ve actually put together a page to help you choose a wig.

Do wigs and extensions look just as they are pictured?

The wigs and extensions will be sent to you as we receive them from the manufacturer. They are packaged flat to save on shipping costs. When you receive your wig or extension, it should be shaken or combed out in accordance with the instructions on our website. The wigs you see pictured on our site have been shaken out and styled with a comb or brush and, in some cases, a quick mist of water. We refrained from using any products (gel, mousse, hair spray, etc) in the pictures we took to give you the best possible idea of how the wigs will look when you receive them. This is also the reasoning behind showing each wig from 5 different angles. If you ever have any questions on how a wig will look when you receive it or how you can style it, feel free to ask us.
